http://tourvideos.com/ Along the Lisbon waterfront are the two most famous monuments in Belem which stand as symbols of Portugal’s 16th century naval voyages: The Tower of Belem and the Monument to the Discoveries. To understand the history of Portugal, we need to consider their spectacular maritime discoveries 500 years ago. Vasco da Gama was the first to sail around Africa and discover the ocean route to Asia, opening up a vast trade network that made Portugal rich. Pedro Cabral discovered Brazil in 1500, which Portugal claimed as their largest colony, and Portuguese navigators were the first to sail to China, in 1542. After the initial Portuguese discoveries other European countries joined in the hunt for colonies and the world would never be the same again. This was the beginni...

Lisbon's waterfront (Portugal). Vic Stefanu, firstname.lastname@example.org. Portugal is a southern European country on the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain and the Atlantic Ocean. Its oceanside location influences many aspects of its culture – salt cod and grilled sardines are national dishes, the Algarve's beaches are a major tourist destination and much of the nation’s architecture dates to the 1500s-1800s, when Portugal had a maritime empire.

We headed to Lisbon Portugal for a quick stop over on our way to Italy. We only had 2.5 days in Lisbon and we didnt waste any time getting to know the city. We spent the day checking out local landmarks such as the harbor, Rossio Square, the street cars, Christo Rei, and much more. We quickly fell in love with Lisbon. The city is vibrant, with rich history. If you are on the fence about visiting Lisbon Portugal, just go. You will not regret it. We have been informed several times that this video has some misinformation in it and we would like to correct it. Lisbon is not technically on the ocean. When I reference the ocean in the video I am in fact talking about the Rio Tejo Tagus, a river that empties into the Atlantic Ocean about 13 miles away from Lisbon.
Lisbon was the final stop of our European tour and we couldn't have chosen a better destination. The city immediately won us over with it's cheery pastel buildings, delicious fresh seafood, and it's unique mix of attractions. It also didn't hurt that we had clear blue skies the whole week we were there! The following video will highlight 20 things to do in Lisbon and we hope it will give you a few ideas of some of the sights this beautiful city has to offer. https://www.expedia.com/Lisbon-District.d178278.Destination-Travel-Guides From its days as a Phoenician outpost to its expansion into a 16th century trading giant, from the Great Earthquake of 1755 to its glorious reconstruction, Lisbon has long been a city of shifting fortunes. Lisbon has forever been linked to the sea and it’s on the waterfront where you’ll find the city’s grand gateway, Praça do Comércio. Pass beneath the triumphal arch, a tribute to the city’s reconstruction, and drift down Rua Augusta to another of Lisbon’s great squares, the Rossio. Climb aboard Tram 28, which passes some of the city’s most iconic sights, then climb the battlements of Castelo de São Jorge to see the red tiled roofs of Lisbon spread out before you. Although the Great Earthquake reduced much of ...

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a municipium called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name Olissipo. Ruled by a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century, it was captured by the Moors in the 8th century. In 1147, the Crusaders under Afonso Henriques reconquered the city and since then it has been a major political, economic and cultural centre of Portugal. The capital of sunny Portugal, Lisbon is situated at the point where the Tagus River estuary meets the Atlantic Ocean. As a travel destination, the riverfront city is as rich and varied as the country’s long history. From the ruins of a Moorish castle perched atop one of the city’s seven hills to a sidewalk café snuggled against an ancient Visigoth wall, remnants of Lisbon’s colorful past are everywhere. While Western Europe’s oldest city has taken steps to overhaul its transportation system, modernize its downtown area and revamp its waterfront, it’s the charm of Lisbon’s oldest neighborhoods that most attract visitors.

Travel video about destination Lisbon in Portugal. Lisbon is a white city located on Portugal’s River Tejo and is flamboyantly beautiful and full of melancholy, and also lively and bursting with colourful joie de vivre. The Praca Dom Pedro is more commonly known as the Rossio. At the northern end of the square is a former palace that has been transformed into a national theatre. The main square was once the setting of bull fights and up until 1820 and the Spanish Inquisition so called heretics were burned at the stake. The medieval Sé Patriacal Cathedral stands defiantly on a hillside. Following the Christian conquest the city’s bishops’ church was built on the foundations of a former mosque to commemorate victory over the Moors. On the city’s highest hill is the marvellous Castelo De Sao J...

Lisbon is the westernmost large city located in Europe, as well as its westernmost capital city and the only one along the Atlantic coast. It lies in the western Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean and the Tagus River. Constructed in the 16th century, it's simply an amazing site), Pena Palace (located in the town of Sintra, close to Lisbon, among the world's most beautiful palaces. A fine example of Portuguese architecture), Belem Tower (a 16th century UNESCO world heritage site. Tsunami The term tsunami, meaning "harbor wave" in literal translation, comes from the Japanese 津波, composed of the two kanji 津 (tsu) meaning "harbour" and 波 (nami), meaning "wave". (For the plural, one can either follow ordinary English practice and add an s, or use an invariable plural as in the Japanese.) There are only a few other languages that have an equivalent native word. In Acehnese language, the words are ië beuna or alôn buluëk (depending on the dialect). In Tamil language, it is aazhi peralai. On Simeulue island, off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia, in Devayan language the word is smong, while in Sigulai language it is emong. In Singkil (in Aceh province) and surrounding, the people use the word gloro/galoro for tsunami. In Nias language, it i...
